The Buffalo Chips in NYC for ICCA Finals!
On April 23, The Buffalo Chips traveled to NYC to prepare for the ICCA Finals held on the 24th in Alice Tully Hall of The Lincoln Center. While taking in the sights of the city the group got an opportunity for an impromptu 3 song concert in Times Square as hundreds of people crowded around to listen. On the actual day of the competition the group could not have been more excited to perform, especially after taking their first steps into a Hall which had recently undergone a multimillion dollar renovation. After each group had randomly selected their slot in the show and received a 15 minute sound check the lights went down and the professional a cappella group Duwende opened the show. The Chips were up second, and, after a riveting performance by the SoCals, they took the stage and the audience by doing what they do best: entertain! That 12 minute set sped by though, and soon the group was backstage celebrating a job well done and the incredible ride to Finals this year had been. After watching 4 more performances all the groups were asked to come back on stage for the awards ceremony. 1st place went to the SoCals, 2nd would go to Pitch Slapped, and 3rd went to the Chips' dressing room comrades the Accidentals. Though surely disappointed about not placing, the group was no less enthused about making it this far and was already thinking about next year! Thanks to everyone who helped us along the way, especially those who dropped everything to come and support us at the Lincoln Center (Our friends, family, Dennis Black and UB staff). We couldn't have done it without you! The Buffalo Chips Advance to ICCA Finals!!! On April 2nd, The Buffalo Chips traveled to Rutgers University, NJ to compete in the ICCA Semifinals. After a night of intense competition among the eight best teams in the mid-atlantic region, they walked away with the award for best choreography for "Fireflies" along with the title as Mid-Atlantic Semifinal Champions! As the Champions, they will advance to the last round of competition at the ICCA Finals in NYC (the first time in the group's 15 year history)! They will be performing at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts on April 24th at 8PM against five of the best groups worldwide! The Chips are honored and ecstatic to perform with a cappella groups of the caliber and also for the chance to entertain people around the world. Come out and support the Buffalo Chips as they prepare for this monumental moment in their 15 year history! Once upon a time, in 1995, a bunch of guys got together and formed a group called Cadence. This group fizzled, not because they had a stupid and way-too musical name (just kidding guys), but rather because they did. We don't ask. The same group of guys, with a few changes, formed together and called themselves the "Buffalo Chips." No details as to the reason for the name were given... Perhaps they were watching CHiPs at the time or some creature influenced the group to name themselves after a buffalo's smelly stuff. We don't really care all that much. Needless to say, the Chips were formed. The original members still tell tales of the first ever Valentine's Day show in February of 1996, and traditions of entertaining full houses, Rubber Duckies, and after-show party excellence dating back just as far. To this day, the Chips continue all of those traditions, and do some other stuff as well. They sing everything from rock and pop to jazz and funk. Add a dash of humor and you have a Buffalo Chips concert. The Buffalo Chips: Entertaining since 1995. |
